KENYA CAMPING SAFARIS

A camping safari or staying in small private mobile camps is one of the best ways to experience Kenya 's natural attractions. The safaris have been designed to include a variety of habitats so that the widest diversity of wildlife can be seen. The camps are sited in private conservancies so that walking and night drives may be taken but are also conveniently located for easy access to Amboseli and Nakuru national parks and the Mara.

Transport is by four-wheel-drive Toyota Land cruiser with roof hatches. Your driver-guide is a wildlife and nature expert and member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association.

A safari cook travels with the entourage. At each camp site we will have staff that does the work like washing up, heating water for showers, doing the cooking and serving the food but clients also help put up and take down their tents.

Equipment is carried in a trailer behind the vehicle - when in camp the trailer is removed and game drives are done in the vehicle. Tents are heavy-duty canvas dome tents for 2 persons. Clients bring their own sleeping bag and a towel but all other camp furniture and equipment is provided. Food is of the same quality as in a luxury camp - produced by our experienced safari cook- and is included in the price, (not bought through a "kitty" like some other camping safaris). Camps are set up on our own exclusive campsites. Drinks other than mineral water are not included.

Day 1 ; NAIROBI / MAASAI MARA

Depart Nairobi via the Great Rift Valley for Masaai Mara Game Reserve. Stop briefly to view the escarpment. Have picnic lunch in Narok town. Proceed further to Mara. Upon arrival proceed for a short evening game drive in search of black manned lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and other plain game.

Dinner and overnight at the Camp/ Lodge.

DAY 2 ; 3 ; MAASAI MARA

Game drives before breakfast, after breakfast and after lunch in our special 9-seater Nissan minibus. Enjoy a nature walk on the 3rd day afternoon to the Maasai Villages or Manyatta.

DAY 4 ; MAASAI MARA / NAKURU

After breakfast leave Maasai Mara for L. Nakuru National Park. Lunch en-route. Pass through Lake Elementaita to view flamingoes. Upon arrival, proceed for a game drive around Lake Nakuru to view flamingoes, waterbuck, buffaloed. Of particular interest is the white rhino.

Dinner and overnight at the Camp/ Lodge.

N/B. The flamingoes in Lake Nakuru are often described as the WORLDS GREATEST BIRD SPECTACLE.

DAY 5 ; NAKURU / SAMBURU

Early morning game drive. Return for breakfast. Leave Nakuru for Samburu with picnic lunch en-route. Upon arrival, check in your tents/ Lodge. Time permitting; proceed for a short evening game drive.

Dinner and overnight at the Camp/ Lodge.

DAY 6 ; SAMBURU

An early pre-breakfast game drive.

Return to the Camp/Lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, proceed for another game drive up to lunch break. Drive back to the Camp/ Lodge for lunch. Go for a further afternoon game drive till 06.00 Pm. Return to the Camp/ Lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7 ; SAMBURU / NAIROBI

After breakfast, leave Samburu for Nairobi with game drive en-route. Pass through Mt Kenya with picnic lunch served in Nanyuki town. Arrive in Nairobi late in the afternoon, between 4-5.00pm .

DAY 7 ;

After breakfast, leave Samburu for Nanyuki, spending the day at leisure acclimatizing. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Nanyuki.

DAY 8 TO 12 MOUNTAINEERING SECTOR ( MT. KENYA )

DAY 8 ;

After breakfast, vehicle transfer to Sirimon route hike to Old Moses Camp for overnight (3300m) - 6 to 8 hrs hike.

DAY 9 ;

Hike to Shiptom's Camp (4200m) for overnight. ( 5 to 7 hrs hike)

Day 10 ;

Attempt on Point Lenana (4985m), lunch enroute and descend to Mintos Hut for overnight.

Day 11 ;

Hike leisurely to Chogoria Park gate (3020m) for overnight.

Day 12 ; NAIROBI

Descend leisurely to Chogoria town for transfer back to Nairobi arriving in the late afternoon.

Day 13 ; NAIROBI / NGORONGORO

Leave Nairobi after breakfast and drive south to Namanga. Cross the border into Tanzania , then continue to Arusha. Lunch in Arusha, then take the scenic route to Ngorongoro Crater.

Overnight at Ngorongoro Campsite / Lodge overlooking the crater itself.

Day 14 ; NGORONGORO CRATER TOUR

After breakfast, descend in a 4x4 wheel drive vehicle through the steep and winding road to reach the crater floor 2,000 ft below. This hauntingly beautiful crater offers an extraordinary experience and a true wildlife spectacle.

Lunch is taken as a picnic on the crater floor.

Late in the afternoon return to the Campsite/ Lodge once more.

Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Campsite/ Lodge.

Day 15 ; NGORONGORO / OLDUVAI / SERENGETI

After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park via Olduvai Gorge .

Arrive at Serengeti Camp/ Lodge. Later depart for an afternoon game viewing drive - time permitting.

Dinner and overnight at the Camp/ Lodge.

Day 16 ; SERENGETI

Early morning game viewing drive before returning to the Camp/ Lodge breakfast.

Lunch then afternoon game viewing drive at 16.00 hrs. Return to Camp/ lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 17 ; SERENGETI / MANYARA

After breakfast depart for Lake Manyara (picnic lunch en route) arriving in the late afternoon. Later in the afternoon depart for a game viewing drive.

Return to the Camp/ Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 18 ; MANYARA / TARANGIRE

After breakfast, embark on your drive to Tarangire Game Reserve.

Enjoy an afternoon game viewing drive in this beautiful game Reserve.

There is a privately run safari lodge and a new Sopa Lodge.

Return to the Camp/ Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 19 ; TARANGIRE / AMBOSELI

Embark on your return journey to Arusha for lunch before proceeding to the border town of Namanga . Link up with your Kenyan driver guide and proceed to Amboseli National Reserve.

Dinner and overnight at your camp/ Lodge.

DAY 20 ; AMBOSELI

Rise for an early morning game viewing drive to catch Mt Kilimanjaro at its' spectacular best.

Return to the Cam / Lodge for lunch. Later in the afternoon, depart again for another game viewing drive in the Reserve.

Dinner and overnight at the Camp/ Lodge.

DAY 21 ; AMBOSELI/NAIROBI/TRAIN TO MOMBASA

Rise for an early morning game viewing drive to catch Mt Kilimanjaro at its' spectacular best. After lunch, drive back to Nairobi arriving at the railway station in time for your 1900hrs train to Mombasa . Dinner and overnight on board the 1st class train.

DAY 22 ; MOMBASA

Breakfast on board the train. 0800hrs on arrival at Mombassa Railway Station, met & transferred to Hotel in the North coast

DAY 23 - 29 ;

Days at leisure for optional activities that can be booked direct with our Coast Representative.

DAY 30 ;

Check out of the room at 10.00 hrs.
